The most anticipated movie in the entertainment industry has just “DROPPED” and everyone was in awe for not only the shocking truth behind history but also… What might come for the future!

The movie Oppenheimer premiered in July 2023 which the movie depicts the life of scientist J. R. Oppenheimer so-called the father of atomic bombs is responsible for the invention and study creating the first atomic bomb in the world, known as the “Manhattan Project”. Eventually, the bomb he made ended World War II by destroying Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan in 1945. Nevertheless, history remains as it is that he became the death and destroyer of the world.

A bit of an intermezzo, that what can we learn as modern mankind living in the 21st century is that there will always be positive and negative, pros and cons, good and bad, and everything in between living among us. Be it objects or people, inventions or the inventor. The bomb Oppenheimer created “might” end World War II but it also just “opened” the endless realm of atomic bomb usage around the world.

Jumping forward to today, mankind now lives in modern convenience and pleasure of accessing easy networks of the Internet. As everything evolves a tad “too fast” companies race to invent even better technology to accommodate the fast-moving demands of the tech sector. In the realms of technological progress, innovations hold so much promise and peril as their potential not only paves brighter paths but also darker tunnels.

To date, mankind’s most proudest invention and has been the talk around the world is Artificial Intelligence. As we stand in the ever-changing tech era, how far can the AI we know today jump beyond our handle as it already carries more capabilities than the average human does? Are these signs that soon mankind is living in threat of AI reaching its “Oppenheimer moment”? Let’s talk about it.

The creation of Artificial Intelligence has always encompassed two primary sides, simply the “wow” and the “ouch” but everything we see and know today has always been the glory win as how AI revolutionizes human life and brings convenience to instant solutions. However, as AI evolves “too much” and loses control, it might go rogue. First, the weaponization of AI has long been sought by many militaries to use it as an autonomous weapon like killer robots where it is an AI-powered system designed to instantly kill enemies without human intervention.

It might seem like an instant solution to end war but it didn’t hinder the possibilities if these inventions go to the wrong hands and create massive human destruction. Moreover, ‘till date no one knows to what extent AI could do and definitely it’s more than just “killing” and “destroying”. Second, the usage and casualties caused by AI have never been properly addressed in any law or regulation – meaning no one is held accountable “IF” the AI-powered go south. We’re not only talking about weapons but also any tech devices that are powered by AI.

AI-powered malware can evolve and adapt in real time, outsmarting traditional cybersecurity measures. Imagine if the government can control and take over the AI military use, and eventually, anything they want or anything that needs to be removed can be easily erased with AI. And that’s why we’re talking about the impact not only if AI is used for bad purposes but also the after-effects it brings with it and the trails it’s leaving behind.

This moment today we’re living in with artificial intelligence is where AI might have reached its Oppenheimer moment – the late moment of realization of how bad one’s invention brought to the world and it’s too late to be undone.

Discussion on AI’s destructive potential has always been a complex topic, even professionals and scientists don’t really comprehend the right way or wrong way to bring these issues to public opinion. But the most important thing is, that shaping future technologies like AI needs ethical aspects and balance to be considered and perhaps from this we learn not to repeat history… ever again!
