Fifteen and Surprise!

Apple has officially debuted the iPhone 15 and Pro series to the public through Apple’s Wonderlust Event. We have pastel colours, titanium designs, a dynamic island, iOS 17, USB-C connector, and… everything is pretty much the same! – said the public sentiment.

Apple recently announced the highly anticipated new iPhone alongside new watches and software updates. Notable highlights from the Apple Event held in California were debuting the iPhone 15 and Pro series to the public, with new colours and titanium material for the Pro series, in addition to putting the dynamic island for all the fifteen series this year. A huge surprise from this event was that the rumour actually came true! (We’ll get back on this later on)

However, despite the glorious debut of the iPhone 15, the public was left disappointed. Especially since there have been no significant changes to the layout and design since the iPhone 11 came out in 2019 (that was 4 years ago) and adding just another colour or removing the notch, won’t make a difference to buying the older model. A lot said, “Apple is not even trying anymore”.

But in hindsight, there is another surprise to “celebrate” with the release of the iPhone 15! Rumors came true and we’re getting the USB-C charging port alongside the cable on all of the new iPhone releases. This marks that almost every Apple product has officially used the USB-C connected – including iPhones, AirPods, iPads, and Macs.

For most users worldwide, this is considered a huge upgrade and easy convenience, especially since most devices nowadays charge through a USB-C connector cable. The USB-C port is now considered a common standard used across laptops and Androids. The USB-C connectivity will make it easier for users to transfer high-quality data and charge even 10x faster than before.

But Why Are We Going to USB-C?

Last year, the European Union passed a law requiring all tech giants to adopt USB-C as a standard and common charging connector for all smartphones by 2024. This rule applies only to wires that plug directly into devices. In addition, this rule will allow users to buy fewer power cables, save money and help cut down environmental waste, and make USB-C a “common universal charger” for everyone.

This demand forced Apple to abandon its 11-year-long iconic “lightning cable” and follow the EU mandate to create the USB-C port for the new iPhone 15 series and potentially all of its upcoming releases in the future. The EU hopes to set an era of standardization in which one type of charger works with most electronics and technologies, which would be ideal.

Do Techs Often Follow Specific Standardized Law?

As the continuous development of the tech landscape grows, it is crucial to follow rules and set standards. Just like following the traffic rules when driving, tech giants are required to follow specific laws in their field, mainly to avoid exploitation and make it a safe use for everyone.

For instance, there are specific regulations handling data protection under GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) to protect individuals’ fundamental rights and freedoms, particularly their right to the protection of their personal data. It requires organizations to diligently protect personal data, as well as provide proof about how that data is protected. GDPR sets a high standard for users’ consent and control over how their data is handled.

In addition, another standardized law that you might not realize is handling a car. Since 1996, the rule OBD-II (On-Board Diagnostic II) has been a standard implemented until today for automotives to provide access to data from the engine control unit (ECU) and offers a valuable source of information when troubleshooting problems inside a vehicle. This helps to detect problems that may not be noticeable to drivers and potentially saves someone’s life.

And currently, in the modern day, the EU has just set another important law regarding the Artificial Intelligence Act – which specifically aims to establish a legal framework for the development, deployment, and use of AI systems for every company out there. This regulation protects populations at large from AI-related safety risks, including deepfake and cybercrime.

As we’re living too fast in an all-digital world, standardization helps to maintain the growth of technology and industry by using the right framework under a lawful act. This helps not only companies to have a clear approach but also users’ protection against cyber risks unknown to the eyes. And once again A SURPRISE ending to the beginning of the iPhone 15 journey. So, would you consider buying the release or waiting for another surprise?

Yes, our usual focus revolves around articles on enterprise technology, we couldn’t help but divert our attention to Google’s latest release: the Pixel 8. In our honest assessment, this tech gadget deserves our attention. The marketing slogan, “Meet Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, engineered by Google and built with AI,” triggered our interest, and rightly so. Big question, Does it really built with AI or it’s a mere marketing words to drive sales.
